Overcoming Impurity
When man was created, he was made in the image of God, but Satan eventually brought the same impurity into the heart of man through deception and disobedience. Genesis 3:6 shows how the woman saw that the tree was good for food, pleasant to the eyes, and desirable, and she took its fruit. Man listened to Satan’s lies and abandoned God’s Word, and impurity entered into the heart of man. As a result, every person is born into a condition of confusion, emptiness, and darkness. Yet God did not leave us there.
Beware of the Impurities of Faith
There is such a thing as impure faith. It is not the absence of belief in God, but faith in which human thoughts, fleshly understanding, and our own ideas have been mixed with divine truth. When we begin to interpret God according to our own philosophical thinking or understanding of Scripture, we can add our own ideas to what God has already accomplished and place confidence in our own efforts. These impurities are serious because they can hinder a person from being saved, weaken the faith of those who are already saved, and prevent believers from becoming effective witnesses. The Gospel of Water and Spirit brings us back to the foundation of true faith—that the issue of sin has been completely resolved through Jesus’ baptism, death, and resurrection.
Cleanse Your Way
God saved us not only to forgive our sins but to transform us into the image of His Son. As 1 Thessalonians 4:7 reminds us, God has called us “not to impurity, but in holiness.” This transformation begins with a renewed mind as we allow God’s Word and the Holy Spirit to shape our thoughts, attitudes, and actions. In a world filled with increasing darkness and deception, our greatest safeguard is not merely avoiding external influences but allowing God to cleanse and renew the very source from which our lives flow—the mind.
Wisdom at Work
Scripture reminds us that though we live in this world, we are not of it (John 17:16). Practical, daily life matters to God, and it is wisdom—not mere knowledge—that equips a believer to live wisely in it. Knowledge is something acquired through study; wisdom is something received from above. A person can be highly educated and skilled and still lack the wisdom that leads to eternal life, because knowledge without Christ leaves a soul unprepared for eternity.
