Mature To The Glory Of God
Maturity in the life of an elect is not simply about how long we have been saved or how much we know about the Bible. It is about becoming increasingly transformed so that our lives bring glory to God. Through the Gospel of the water and the Spirit, through the finished work of Christ accomplished through Jesus’ baptism, death, and resurrection, tremendous internal transformation takes place within us. This transformation should be reflected through the way we live, causing us to glorify God and draw others toward Him.
Overcoming Impurity
When man was created, he was made in the image of God, but Satan eventually brought the same impurity into the heart of man through deception and disobedience. Genesis 3:6 shows how the woman saw that the tree was good for food, pleasant to the eyes, and desirable, and she took its fruit. Man listened to Satan’s lies and abandoned God’s Word, and impurity entered into the heart of man. As a result, every person is born into a condition of confusion, emptiness, and darkness. Yet God did not leave us there.
Pure In Heart
Impurity can begin quietly in the heart. What may seem like a small desire can grow and eventually affect our thoughts, actions, and even our faith. The story of Gehazi in 2 Kings 5:20–27 gives us a clear picture of how this can happen. Gehazi was serving alongside Elisha and had witnessed how God healed Naaman of his leprosy, however he allowed greed and covetousness to take root in his heart. Although his impurity was not visible on the outside, it was already present within him. This reminds us that outward holiness does not necessarily mean inward purity, because God looks at what is happening in our hearts.
Shining Stars In An Impure World
Many people in this world want to become stars. They may become famous through music, sports, entertainment, or other achievements, and people may look up to them because of what they have accomplished. Yet this kind of stardom is temporary. God, however, has called us to become eternal stars who will shine forever. Daniel 12:3 says that those who are wise and those who turn many to righteousness will shine like the stars forever and ever.
